St Stephens working with The Laban looking at The Olympics in 2012
St Stephens has worked closely with 2 dance artists one from the Laban in South East London and another from East London Dance in Stratford Circus. They worked with us looking at the theme of the olympics in preparation for 2012. Our dance piece focuses on the idea of team work. The children worked closely together looking at how they could support one another in movement. They also spent time thinking about success and failure in sporting activities, particulary those associated with the olympics. They have worked on solo, duet and group choreography.
They had the opportunity to have photos taken with a professional photographer in a setting of their choice. The children chose ladywell fields as this is where they have their sports day. The photos show the children using different parts of their bodies to support one another.

I had a great time with the laban because we worked as a team and the dance was really enjoyable and fun.
Our teachers were brilliant dancers top banana and were really nice to us.I enjoyed watching the other schools dances they were really good I think it was a good idea doing it on the olyimpics and a great oppurtunity.

I like the excitement of working with the Laban and during our dance practices when we had to make expressions with our faces. I also like having partners and exploring the different parts of our bodies.When we went to the laban we worked with different people.

I really liked the project we did with the Laban because we had a chance to express ourselves and use our imagination.I think my class really enjoyed going to Stratford Circus and also going to the Laban Centre as well.The one thing that I liked the most out of everything we did was seeing other school’s brilliant dances as well as performing our own.

Although I wasn’t at the big performnce at Canary Warf, everybody says it was amazing and so I agree with them. What we enjoyed in the Laban was the Stratford Circus Performance because we got clapped at quite a lot of times! Because of the good clapping I thought we were the best school there! =-

I loved working with the laban.The best bit for me was performing in Canada square with a audience .I like working in twos. It was a great experience I hope I can do it again.

Well first of all I think having the olympics in london is great, there will be thousands of people coming from all around the world, this will be a wonderful opportunity to get to know others and we will also make a lot of money from these people and it is great that our country has been chosen.But it also might be bad because there might be more crime
and loads of traffic which means more pollution and lots of people rushing to work and school, which won’t be good for our peaceful enviroment
