Avenue Primary: Shape Poems

Shape Poems

I was running and I felt like my heart was dead
I jumped and felt like I’d turned in to a bird
I rolled over and I went to check my score.
I won.

I started the race and then I was near to jump
Then….
I was in the sky and I was thinking that I was in the sky forever
Then I landed
I rolled in the sand and rolled and rolled
And people shouted
Hey! Hey!
I won!
Loreeza Raheel

I was running very fast
Off I went
I was flying in the sky like superman
When I came down I nearly lost my balance but I still landed in
The sand pit like a stone.

I was scared and nervous but thought I’ll make it
Bending my back over the bar quickly going down
I landed on the mat with a bang!
Kenan

I was running and I’m heading to the top
The crowds are cheering
I’m still running and thought I was flying like a bird
I was heading down my heart was beating so fast.
I was there
I was so happy.

Footprint Poems

My legs and hands were thumping
I was really excited.
I was second in the race.
I can see the finish line
My head goes in first.
I win by the closest margin.
Whoo-hoo.

I’m feeling nervous and the crowd is screaming.
The gun goes off and the race begins.
I Start off slow and steady
Then I started to go fast.

There I was at the starting line.
My heart was beating like a bass drum.
The gunman shot the gun in the air, bang!
Whoosh, swoosh
My face was hitting the wind
My hand was trembling like jelly.
The crowds were cheering my name.
I was last.

I run ahead wearing my lucky socks that are red
My heart is beating fast
Hoping that I am not last
I’m nearly there
I can see it in my sight
I’m running with all my might.
There’s the finish line
Hoorah! Hooray!
I win.
Anita Panna

At the starting line
Feeling nervous but fine
I can hear the crowd calling my name for the running game
Bang! The race has begun
And I start to run.
Anisha Panna

I started catching up and I passed the person in front of me.
When I passed them I knew I was going to win.
I saw the finishing line
And I made it.
I won!

We had to get ready and go to the starting line
My heart was thumping like a drum and I felt nervous.
I was shaking like a rattle snake.
The gun shot went bang and we started.
I ran as fast as I could.

Other Poems

Devil’s Barbeque
I am going to have a barbeque
And this is what I’ll cook for you:
Hot dogs with raw dog leg
Delicious cake with frog’s legs
Yummy slimy snake steak
And horse’s tongues freshly baked.

I’m going to have a barbeque and this is what I’ll cook for you:
I wonder if you like rats because I do.
I also love slimy snakes too.
We’ll have some socks with monkey poo.
After we’ll have a pig’s nose
With a lovely rotten tomato stew.

I’m going to have a barbeque and this is what I’ll cook for you:
Juicy mouth-watering dishes from the galaxy
And something from the sea.
Horses tongues and cows dung
Frogs legs and clothes pegs
Chicken feet with octopus meat.
It’s going to be the bee’s knees.
Hasan

Row, row row very slow
Javlin away we go.

Ping pong ding dong
I smashed the ball like old king Kong.

A farmer’s hen saw big Ben in the night at half past ten.

Denis played soggy tennis under water in the city of Venice.

Roll and roll
Let the water go
Splish splash let the water flow.
Make sure there isn’t any hole
Iaz found the bee
Give me with one of the magic peas and we will find the golden key.

Pull and push
Blair and Bush
Pull and push
They don’t shush.

1, 2, 3
Bumble bee
Lovely tree
Wee, wee, wee.
Tasnim Afsana

Row, row, go below,
Blanket but no pills
Push and shove
And pull a dove
Michael Jackson wears a glove.
Tasnim A and Fatiha

Roll and roll
Let the water go

Splish splash let the water flow
Make sure there isn’t a hole
1, 2, 3 I found the bee
Give me one of the magic keys.
Look at me I am free
Oh no I bumbled into a tree
I broke my head so
I went to bed.

Haggerston: NEWS poem

North, South East and West

North, south, east and west
Wild wacky west
If you put it to the test we’ll beat the rest.

North, south, east and west,
North the place of culture and rest
Where everyone comes to be the best.

North, south, east and west,
A quarter of London is the South,
It’s coming from your mouth.

North, south, east and west,
Olympics are coming to London East
The crowds will scream like an angry beast.

Mayflower: Footprint Poems

Mayflower footprint poems

My tummy has butterflies inside
My fans are saying you are going to win this
Now I am gonna start the race
I feel like giving up.
Mahmuda

I’m sprinting
It’s like a tiger chasing its prey.
The fans are saying
“You can do this”
Hooray, I won
I am so happy
Yesss!
Mahmuda

Runners worried, nervous, excited.
Butterflies in my stomach.
Bang and we’ve off.
People behind breathing and stamping like a herd of elephants chasing me.
Tanjin

I’m tired but I’m not giving up
My legs are wobberly
I might fall.
The finish line is right in front of me.
I take a run for it.
I’m the champion.
I won!
Tanjin

The tension is rising
I’m head to head verses Baden Prince
He slips
I can see
I can see heaven with a gold glimmering trophy
Nearly there
Wow!
Won on my debut.
Ijaz

My mouth is dry
I think I swallowed something revolting
Bang!
I had the best start out of the other athletes
I’m running like an Aston Martin.
Ijaz

My feet are hurting
But I’m going to win the race, yes!
Wow! I’m a definite winner! Nadhia

I am standing and ready
Now it’s about to start
Bang! I start running.
Nadhia

I am worried but no matter what I will not give this race.
My feet are hurting as if there is an elephant on top of me.
I am doing it
I can see the finish line in front of me.
I did it!
I am the champion!
I am so famous!
Sumaiya

People are screaming and chanting my name
Butterflies in my tummy making me nervous. Bang!
We’re off.
I can smell the rush of air going through me while I am running.
I have to do it
I am first.
I am so happy and excited!
Sumaiya

The crowd is chanting my name in rhythm
I am feeling nervous, also anxious.
Ready, steady, bang!
I am running like a cheetah.
Ruhel

Sweating like a melting ice-cream
Pins shattering in my head
I am now first place using all my energy.
I know I’m going to win the race.
Suddenly I collapse on the track and couldn’t move an inch.
Ruhel

The game is getting tough
I’m exhausted, dehydrated.
I feel like I never had waited for hours.
I’m a few metres away from the finishing line.
I won! I’m the 1000 metres champion!
Naim

I’m feeling a bit nervous and worried
There are a lot of fast runners.
My family are counting on me.
I’m in first place
The other runners are behind me like elephants
I can’t stop now.
Naim

So many people cheering and shouting
I can hear them shouting Tanya, Tanya!
I feel so nervous
I’m about to start
I’m getting ready, bang!
I’m running as fast as I can.
Tanya

I’m getting weaker and weaker
But I can do it
I’m running
I can see the finish line
I’m nearly there
Yes, I won!!
Tanya

People cheering and chanting my name.
On your marks, get set, go
I move.
I’m sweating
It’s noisy
I’m running so fast.
Anisha

Now I’m first place.
I’m running but am so tired
I’m feeling the pain.
There’s the finish line
I’m getting close.
I’m going to do it.
I did it!!
Anisha

I’m nervous and worried, Bang!
A gun goes off
I’m running down the tracks
“Give me a V and an I and V and I and A and an N.
What does that spell!
VIVIAN!
Vivian

I can’t go on anymore
I feel so tired but I’m gonna carry on
Come on Viv you can do it!
I can see the finish line
It’s like seeing Christmas
My speed is explosive
I’m a winner!!
Vivian

People shouting, screaming and chanting
Legs moving up and down like a Ferrari.
Selina

Put in front getting away
But you are catching up
See myself holding the biggest trophy on earth
I’ve done it, I’ve won!
Selina

My fans are cheering ANISHA
Anisha go!
Cameras everywhere
Click, click, click
Running like a Lamborghini Geraldo
I feel so strong like I’m a mad cheetah that wants to eat.
Anisa

It’s getting tough
Move out of my way
The person in front of me trips
I’m in first place
Now everyone is cheering
Anisha, who’s the best?
I am the winner
I give my autograph
I’m so famous.
Anisa

People are calling and cheering my name
I’m worried that I am going to loose the race
Bang, the race has started.
I won the race.
Mirage

Running fast but other people are in front of me
I have to go past them.
Almost to the finish line
Only a few more steps to the finish line
I won
I won the race.
Mirage

I’m at the starting line
Friends are cheering
I’m taking my position
On your marks, get set, go. Bang!
My feet are sprinting and electricity is going through my body.

I’m sweating
My hair is wet.
I could do this
My heart is beating fast.
I want to be in first place.
Here is the finish line.
There’s someone behind me.
1, 2, 3,
Yes I won!

People are shouting my name,
I am worried a lot that I might lose.
I’ve got a headache.
I felt like I had electricity in my body.
Bang, the race has begun.
I ran so much and started to sweat.
There was so much spotlights.
Other people were running like sports cars.
Emra

People ahead chanting my name.
I was brave and nervous.
I was starting to get a stitch because I had too much food.
I had it because I was feeling hungry.
I was near the finish line
I still had stitches and butterflies in my tummy.
I was in second place then I to first place.
I won!
Emra

People are cheering JAVED!
I am nervous
My hear it beating
I am sweating so much
My head has gone wet.
I am zooming like a Lamborghini.
Javed

I am in pain
I am running so fast
My leg is aching so much
I am out of breath.
Javed

I am feeling brave
I can do this, come on.
I’m in second place
I can win this race
My fans are cheering
They are all shouting like I’m going to win.

You can do this
Then later something happened I was in first place!
I see the finish line
I was glad putting my arms out.
I won
I was absolutely glad that I won.

I am scared
Nervous
I can win
I can win this race.

I can hear people screaming for me to win.
Bang goes the gun.
Raynul

I start running
I am running so fast that I won the billion dollars of shiny gold trophy
I am a winner!

I can hear people
People screaming my name
Shouting, chanting,
So I can be happy and win.
Bang goes the trigger
I pass the finish line
It was like thunder.
Mohamed

I hear the crowd
It was so good.
And here comes the big one
When I ran through it was like eating a rainbow.
Now I’m the winner.
Mohamed

I am waiting to start.
I’m feeling nervous and anxious.
People are screaming my name.
The wind is pushing me back but I am still strong.
I’m worried I’m not going to win.
Amina

I’m sweating
My heart is pounding so hard and my legs are tired,
Aching I still have faith.
I’m sprinting fast.
I want to win
Exhausted and passing all the other people what’s with me?
I’ve won the race!
Amina

Butterflies in my tummy
I’m nervous
The gun was off
My legs are tingling
I’m getting tummy ache
I am moving
I’m winning the race
I won the race
Yes I won the race.
Aliyah

I’m happy
I am winning the race
People are shouting my name
Aliyah, Aliyah.
Aliyah.

You’re getting ready to go
You feel like choking.
After five miles you get dehydrated.
You’re sprinting
You’re saying I have to win this race.
I want the president to give me the biggest cup in the world.
Aghar

Running miles.
Now I am first.
Everyone is cheering for me.
So hungry
I move
Yeah!
Hooray!
Aghar

People are chanting and others are saying who’s going to win.
My hear is beating faster and faster and getting tired.
Shahena

I even start running faster
My face is red and pink
Others push me back
I can’t stand it
I see the finish line
I’ve won.
Shahena

I’m really nervous
Come on, come on
I can win this race.
I’m really excited to win the race.
I’m running so I can feel my body move.
Ruhul

I’m really frightened
I’m going to beat racers.
I’m really really shaking to win a special trophy.
Ruhul

I am brave like a tiger chasing her prey.
I am getting stitches
I’m in pain
I can see the golden ribbon
I think I am there
I won the cup
I am really happy
I am feeling great!
Shaumela

I am in fourth place
Second and first place, yeah!
I am sweating, dehydrated
I feel like choking
I feel like falling down
People were passing me
I ran very fast
I finish the race.

Noises of the crowd screaming.
My fans are cheering
I am feeling very scared
It’s like I am running for two days.
My heart is beating like a drum
I know I can win this.

Research into athlete Jesse Owens

First name: Samira
Year group: 5

My piece of work is called: Jesse Owens research

Jesse Owens won the gold medal. He wanted to show what kind of people are in United States because Adolph Hitler thought that no one could win but only Germans could, that’s why he wanted to show Hitler that other people can win to and this is because Jesse Owens wanted to win for the united states and because he had the confidence in himself to do the race but some people didn’t because Hitler would kill them if they didn’t follow what he said. That’s why Jesse Owens said “I am going to show him what other people can do.”

St Stephens working with The Laban looking at The Olympics in 2012

St Stephens has worked closely with 2 dance artists one from the Laban in South East London and another from East London Dance in Stratford Circus. They worked with us looking at the theme of the olympics in preparation for 2012. Our dance piece focuses on the idea of team work.  The children worked closely together looking at how they could support one another in movement.  They also spent time thinking about success and failure in sporting activities, particulary those associated with the olympics.  They have worked on solo, duet and group choreography.

They had the opportunity to have photos taken with a professional photographer in a setting of their choice.  The children chose ladywell fields as this is where they have their sports day.  The photos show the children using different parts of their bodies to support one another.

The Olympics

I think that being part of the olympic is really hard because you have to be prepared for it before it happens.
Athletes sometimes take pills to stay skinny or go gym or run miles and miles.

Why Do We have Olympic Games & What Does It Really Mean?

I have always wondered what an Olympic was and why we have them. Is it to keep fit or just be known as somebody thats broken the world record for running the furthest at a certain time?
I really do not understand the meaning of it be all.
I mean, we could be helping poor people all over the world with the amount of money thats spent on JUST RUNNING!
I would really like to understand the meaning of OLMYPIC and why we have it so often then maybe, just maybe i’ll change my mind on what i think of it.

If I met the organisers

If i had a chance to speak with the organisers of the olympics, i would say to them that how comes they spend thousands on one event taking place in london when there is alote of poverty in the world. People are suffering in every part of the world, some are orphans. There parents have died or have sold them in order to survive in this world. Look into yourselves, does it even bother you? it really bothers me and alote of other people in this ciciety.Starvation, children of the ages of 5 years old there parents or guardian gave them away just because of money. There are orphans of the ages of 11 who have the responsibilty over ther younger brothers or sisters, some children parents die before they are born.they have fake there age to get job some go through abuse.you and me togther can change the world make it a better place for the future generation.

WHAT I THINK ABOUT THE OLYMPICS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think it is a good thing for olympics coming to london. i would also like to take part in the olympics i am in the tooting bec athletic track club which i train to be in the olympics. i will be 20 at the time of the olympics. i would like to run the 100 or 200 metres in the olympics. it would be good for tourism to bring more money into the country.i also think the the old olympic logo was absolutely rubbish you should really change it because it looks really childish. you should let a young designer to design the logo it will look skilful and entertaining.

Changes in school

since year 7 there have been some changes like the swipe-card systems which we use at the beginning of every lesson however i don’t think those swipe-cards are very helpful because it just wastes time at the beginning of every lesson and it causes trouble example: some students can lose their swipe-cards.
There have been new drinks in the lunch hall and recently added smoothies aswell even thought they recently removed it.They added new curtains in the hall.
They also changed the uniform and now we have blazers however most students do not like our new school uniform.
They also added new interactive boards which kind of help us with our learning.

comments (0) tags:

Changes

What changes have I noticed in Camberwell since I started school?

Well…

*they put in these swipe-card systems where we have to ‘beep’ in every beginning of the lesson. I don’t think it’s all that helpful/useful because it won’t be able to tell who’s truanting because someone else can ‘beep’ in for them.

*they added a curtain to the hall in the ‘Dennen’ site so that other classes can’t see us when we’re changing into our dance kits.

*they added interactive whiteboards (which we hardly use in some lessons) and it kind of helps us, sometimes, when we go on them revision sites during lessons.

*they added a logo on our school jumpers (which we do not really appreciate) and they included a ‘non-compulsory blazer’ (also with the logo on it.)

I can’t really remember the rest of the changes so THE END.

A poem about the Olympics

Bare Feet (A poem by professional poet Baden Prince writing about the London 2012 Olympics as part of a class for school pupils)

At first sight of
early-morning light
an African child wakes
sets off for school
bare feet stepping on
bare earth
cool breeze kissing
bare skin

As he runs
he dreams of a time
when he will race
to win

Hundreds, thousands:
bare people chant his name
as he runs
bare feet
skipping across cold concrete
winning marathons

Years pass: he’s got
bare gold medallions and trophies
in his house
bare dollars
in the bank
bare name brands
on his back

Barefoot no more:
he’s a champion now
bare people know his name
he’s famous
in every country
in the world

Children watch him on TV
as he runs
they dream

In their dreams
bare feet
in soft shoes
kiss cool earth
with a Nike “swoosh”
triple-striped tops and shorts
drink cool breeze
tangy and sweet
like lemon cola or Appletise

It pays to advertise
bare people
play games
bought and paid for
by these names
hundreds and thousands
of millions
buy their brands

At first sight of
early-morning light
an African child wakes
sets off for school
bare feet stepping on
bare earth
cool breeze kissing
bare skin

As he runs
he dreams

Avenue Primary Photography Workshop

At Avenue, we have been involved with Apples and Snakes, doing photography and poetry workshops. During the first photography workshop the children were taken outside. They took their shoes and socks off and were asked to think about what they could feel under their feet. The children closed their eyes to help them concentrate and thought of a couple of adjectives to describe the sensations. Andy Rumball led the workshop.
