Team Inspiration, photographer Holly Warburton and Design Heroine are working with students at Charles Edward Brooke School to explore their diverse cultures and identities through topics such as design, dance genres, fashion and writing to ensure they are represented and feel a sense of ownership and pride in their new school building.

Make Believe Arts is working with Dalmain Primary School on a project which demonstrates how the curriculum can be accessed in a stimulating way.  They will use drama to enhance pupils’ speaking and listening skills, build their confidence in a variety of subject areas and engage their parents more fully in school work.

Pupils and staff at Shapla Primary School are working with sculptor Clare Burnett to design, create and position a permanent artwork in the playground, enriching the curriculum through Personal Social Health and Citizenship Education and developing pupils’ understanding of the wider community.

Sadlers’ Wells is working with Robert Blair Primary School on a ballet, flamenco and katak dance project that aims to motivate pupils, and boys in particular, to engage with dance as a challenging and new physical activity.

Solar Scale

Year 7 students and their maths and science teachers at Islington Green School are working with Kinetika to design and create a versatile scale installation of the solar system made out of fibreglass rods. This semi permanent installation will be a learning resource used by future years.

Staff and pupils at Jubilee Primary School are working with researcher Anna Craft and visual artist Sophia Lovell Smith to explore how creativity within literacy and creative spaces within the school might be assessed, and how progression in creative learning could be defined.

Using digital technology, poetry and model making, pupils and staff at Lauriston Primary School are working with poet Shedman, visual artist Sue Ridge and architect Julia Dwyer to create a ‘ghost’ of the current school building before it is demolished and rebuilt in 2009.

City and Islington College is working with Artsadmin to embed professional production and management skills in both students and staff, and establish the identity of four existing performing arts groups, Raw Skills, Rouge, Candid and See and Eye Music. Bow Arts Trust is working with students and staff at Bow School to create an identity for the Heritage building, home to the humanities departments at the school, in the form of large hanging banners.

Xchange

This programme creates the opportunity for young people working in our core schools to apply for up to £1,000 to realise a change in their school.  Working with Tower Hamlets Summer University, the kinds of things that young people are thinking about changing include the way schools use the internet and the atmosphere in the school canteen.  However, watch this space as projects develop and we see what changes young people are making across their schools.
